Backstreet Boys at the Syndney Press Conference, January 30, 2006
by Sascha

I won a competition to attend BSB’s press conference in Sydney. A flashy private car had picked me up and I got to the Museum Of Contemporary Art around 11:20. I met with the producer of Sunrise and she gave me the run down of how it was all going to go. After a nerve racking wait the Boys arrived on the little stage they had set up just after midday. They had reserved me a front row seat so Kevin was literally 2 feet away from me. They were presented with plaques selling 1.5 millions albums here and they all said it was one of the nicest awards they had been presented with and the only one to have all of their albums on it.

So then the questions started. I was 2nd or 3rd up so I was freaking out and not paying 100% attention to what was going on as I didn't what to mix up my words and not make any sense. When my time came I told them how I had won a competition to be there and how very excited I was. Kev asked me what I had to do to win so I told him I had to enter 3 questions I would ask the BSB. I continued saying thanks for coming out all the fans were very happy that they were here especially ones from weird world (which got big smiles from them all) then I asked what is the strangest gift you have ever been given from fans. Nick started to answer, but Brian jumped in and said a blow up kangaroo, which they got in Brisbane, which he blew up and left outside Nick’s hotel room and knocked and ran. Nick was giggling about that. I asked how they would get that through customs and Brian said he'll stick a pin in it!! Howie jumped in and said they get lots of bras that they take out the back and wash and take them home and give to family members!! This was pretty funny. Kev goes, “What are your other 2 questions?” I said I’d save them for later and they said, “OK cool.”

After that a few of the other journalists asked some questions, most of them were very fair questions except for one idiot that ruined the mood of the guys. Kevin told him to sit down very firmly! When the full conference finished, there was a bit of a break and the guys split in two - Howie, AJ & Brian stayed inside for interviews & Kev & AJ went outside. I was first up to do my little interview with Kev & AJ. It was hard to stay 'professional' and calm cause if I got too excited they would have thrown me out for sure. I asked most of my questions that I entered in the comp, starting with what crazy thing that they want to do in life. Kev said he wants to do more hang gliding. AJ said even though he hates heights he wants to do base-jumping! He said it doesn't make sense but he wants to do it.

Then I asked whom they would love to meet and get to know. AJ said Mick Jagger or Keith Richards to actually see if he could make any sense out of them. Kevin said Ghandi and I know nothing about Ghandi so I’m sure I had a pretty blank look on my face when he said that!! LOL! I asked how they handle the fans, if it gets crazy, etc... Kev said it seems the fans have grown up and the hormones have calmed down -- even in themselves! LOL.. I was told by the sunrise lady I had one more question so I asked if they will definitely be doing another album and tour as they mentioned in the press conference how they want to do solo stuff (this is what they showed me ask on the TV) and Kev said they definitely will do it just don't have a definite date. I asked them to give a shout out to the WW, which they did, so when I get my copy of the whole thing I will try and put it up there! The sunrise chick jumped in and asked a couple more Q's after that I jumped in and got photos with them. We went back inside and asked if I could get a photo with the rest of them, the nice Sony lady said yes, the mean one (who some of you would have seen at soundcheck) said NO, but I am not complaining at all! It was an awesome experience. I went home and calmed down before heading to the center for the soundcheck. The friend I took me with to the conference got me into the sc so yay!
