Backstreet Boys in London, October 20-21, 2005
by Diana

My adventure started out taking the train from Brighton to London. There I met up with a friend I've been talking to online for a few months, Sarah. She knew what hotel the Boys were staying at, so after grabbing dinner we go to the hotel to try and see them when they come back from Frank Skinner. After some mix up over what door they will use, we miss them. Damn. I was totally kicking myself. Here at the hotel I meet up with my two newest Backstreet Boys friends, Kat and Jen. So they joined us at the hotel and around 10pm, we are at the right door to see Nick and Howie leave. However, there is a group of fans that just rush the boys and I'm not comfortable doing anything like that so I kind of stood to the side and said, "Hi Howie," and when he looked up, he gave me a wink, said "Hi." Kat was able to ask him for a picture and get one. Then they were off. I didn't see anyone get a picture with Nick. Maybe a few autographs, but it was actually pretty fast and the boys were off. Jen actually asked Marcus what time the boys might be home and he said maybe around 4-5am.

Kat and Jen had soundcheck passes for that night's show so they ended up hanging around the hotel for only a little while. I had heard from Marcus that they really weren't able to give out soundchecks like they used to because of all the crowds so I wasn't gonna be able to get in. I thought I might try to see the boys leave for soundcheck. I stood outside the hotel till 3pm with people I had met until the tour buses pulled up.

When the tour buses pulled up, they had put barricades to try to help keep fans back. I kinda hung out in the second row behind a guy I knew and let him get me a signature on my UK CD jacket from Howie and Kevin. AJ had been the first to leave, but he jumped on the bus pretty quickly without giving any autographs. Bummer. Then Kevin came out and he quietly just started signing autographs. After he had been out for a minute, and while he was still signing, Nick came out and came to our side. He gave out some autographs to both sides and skipped right over my CD jacket. Then he hopped in the bus shortly before Kevin did. Howie came out next and he too gave a few minutes of autographs. Brian was last and he looked adorable with Baylee sleeping on his shoulder. For the most part fans were kept behind the barrier and he even signed some autographs for fans which I think was sweet since he didn't really need to do that.

I had row 3 of the second section back for Thursday and worse for Friday night since the ticket I was gonna buy in 3rd row fell through. So at 4:30 when the box office opens, I buy a 14th row ticket for Friday night. Sadly, no better seats for that night's show. So, we go off, grab some food and then around 5:45 I show back up at the box office and ask and the lady goes '1 ticket? Hmm... Oh, I have row 8" !!!! "What section!?!?" She replies "A4". Otherwise known as Nick's Side. Lol. I got row 8 about 1.5 hours before the show for regular price! sweet deal!

Thursday night's concert crowd was definitley more of the hard-core fans. They sang every word. Nick was his usual self being funny. They kept practically everything the same except for a few ad-lib parts and stuff. Like during "The One" when there is that kinda pause in lyrics during bridge, Kevin goes "Nick this is you," and the boys all sing, "I like to move it. move it. I like to move it, move it. I like to...MOVE IT!" LMAO! I LOVE this song part from Madagascar and the fact that they say it's Nick's part cracks me up!

Other interesting Nick thing was when Nick is doing his little chat with the crowd , going "Does anybody like to rock and Rollllllll?" (little scream there from nick, very cute). "The kind that makes you go Ahhhhhhh hhhhh?!?" This is all before JWYTK and Nick goes, "I want to introduce you guys to my girlfriend. You don't mind do ya?". For one quick second the crowd cheers and then when they realize what he said, the whole crowd started booing. OMG, it was too funny. Nick was like, "Uhhh you guys are like a bunch of football fans I tell you." While AJ goes "Touchy, touchy, touchy." He finally brings out his guitar and goes, "This is helga" (pointing to the name "Helga" in red down the strap) and then says something like,"Now you know who I was cheating on Paris with". *jaw dropped* He did NOT just say that. But he did and I have it on video. lol. Brian jumped into the wheel chair section and does his band introduction from there. So cute he is.

Concert over, we rushed to the hotel and found the guys were in there. Damn. We missed them. We hung around. We missed Brian, Kevin, and Howie leaving because we were at another door. Damn again. So far, my luck hadn't been good. Sarah went home cause she had to use the train to get home and they stop at midnight. By midnight, there were significantly less fans. Then they closed the back entrance and the only doors you could get in and out of was supposedly the front. At around 1:30 Kat and Jen decided to run back to the hotel. I wasn't leaving until I knew that the only 3 boys to go out were back in and for sure Nick and AJ weren't going out. Just after Kat and Jen left, I walked around the building once to just view the closed back door and low and behold I see Dave Brown get let into the back entrance by hotel security door man! So obviously, it wasn't really closed to everyone. I stood on the corner with a view of the entrance up to both those vans and the driveway for the front that is down a little ways. And about 5 minutes later, I see one of the two vans the boys used start to pull up to the back! I'm the only fan there! I walk up to be to the side of the hotel door and out pops Leighanne. We say Hi and stuff and then Brian comes out of the car. He sees me and I ask if I could have a picture. Sweetheart that he is says of course and he stands next to me for a picture. Since there is nobody around and bodyguards can't take pictures, I got to hold the camera up to take a picture of us. Brian goes, "Oh here, you want me to do that". Ok! That cute picture of Brian and I was taken by Brian. Love my camera more! I say goodnight and so does he and I get a hug.

I kind of stand there for a second the move away a little, checking my picture with Brian. The security guard door man comes out and goes, "You did good!" I laughed. He was nice. He goes, "Stay right there, the other two are on their way." I was like 'Yes!' He tells me that if anymore fans had been there I wouldn't have been able to get pics so I stayed right there. While I'm waiting, I chat with the security guy and he tells me ya, these are the last two for the night since the other two didn't go out, which I knew since nobody had seen them leave. So, like two minutes later I see another van pull up. Out comes Kevin first. I again stand to the side and when Kevin comes I ask for a picture. This time I take it and I say thanks and say I loved the show and it was nice not having the power go out. Smile at this one. They comment that I came a long way and I don't really correct their thinking. Then Kevin walks in and my attention is on Howie who came out of the van next. Again, we he looks up from talking with his friend I ask for a picture and he says sure and we pose. Got a hug from Howie and of course another wink.

I come back the next day to see them leave for soundcheck again, only this time there are even more fans waiting around the back of the hotel -- like 150 I'd say. Dumb fans crowding the street too. *shakes head* This time I know the set up and I wait across the street in the center thing and wait by the bus door entrance. Again AJ is the first to come out with a luggage bag. I show him the card I had (the one I'd had for a few days with no chance to give him) and he kinda looks interested so I slowly approach and give him the card and he says thanks and then the crowd crowds in and he gets on the bus. He smiled though, and hopfully he liked the card if he even read it. Nick is right behind him though and I got to also go up to him to give him my gift. He shifts his luggage and takes the gift, saying thanks, and then goes on the bus. So really, nobody got any autographs and even Jen didn't get to hand her card to Nick or AJ so I felt special. After I had given my stuff to each I backed away, unlike so many idiots who waited for a car to come and honk at them. After that I stood way back and watched the chaos of fans doing more stupid shit. Howie and Kevin jump on the bus since they are all running way late (I was told soundcheck didn't happen right on friday) and then Brian comes out and the sweet man gave more autographs even after the crowd was rude.

Again I tried the whole concert ticket thing and end up with row 9 on Nick's side. Not bad for getting the tickets the day of. I thought the crowd on Thursday was awesome, but Friday blew me out of the water. SOOO loud, but in a good, singin-a-long and dancing way. Intelligently, Nick didn't say anything about his "girlfriend" this time. The show was spectacular though. So sad to see it finally end. *sigh* How long till the next tour?? lol. Maybe I need to book a trip to Hawaii that Kevin said they WERE going to perform when Kat asked them during soundcheck. lol
