HHC Charity Golf Tournament
by Amy
Part One - The Morning of June 30, 2003
I knew before the event that AJ was going to be there because while we were in line, my mom and I were talking to two girls who saw him at the mall on Sunday. The event started in a tent that was in front of this house (the inside of the house had lots of UK basketball pics ... bathroom, kitchen, dining room. I saw Mrs. Littrell peeking out of the door! She is SO adorable! So energetic and full of life!
We got in line and registered and while we were waiting, Mrs. Littrell came through the line and gave everyone hugs! What a sweetheart! She was telling us how she was playing with Baylee yesterday. She thanked us for coming from Louisiana and gave us hugs. We showed our IDs and invitations and we had the opportunity to buy raffle tickets and then they gave us our table numbers. I was A1 and my mom was A2 so we were right up front with Jesi and her friends, and Guilia and her friend, and two more people. The family table was right in front of us and I saw a little baby seat so I was like "Aww! Baylee is gonna be here!"
Brandon came in and talked for a bit. I think Mrs. Littrell talked, too. Then I saw Brian get out of his car with Baylee in his arms! And they introduced Brian and Leighanne and Baylee (Baylee is THE cutest baby... he looks just like Brian! Strawberry blond hair and blue eyes... and oh by the way, Brian's nickname for Baylee is scooper- like pooper scooper!) Brian came up and talked for a while and then he said, "Oh yea - I forgot to introduce y'all to someone. Boner, come on out!" And AJ appeared from behind the curtain! I'm tellin' y'all, the tent almost burst it was so loud!
AJ looks and acts SO healthy. I know a lot of people have been worried about him so I want to reassure y'all that this is probably the happiest that I have ever seen him. He looks GREAT!
Then the question and answer began.. I have to say that Jesi stole the show with her comments! She said what all of us wanted to say and she expressed it so well. Heck, she even made BRIAN cry! Her question was, what ONE word describes the journey over the past year. Brian thought for a LONG time and said "Blessed. We have been truly blessed." AJ said "Effortless." (This kind of surprised me) He said, "We're doing what we LOVE to do so it's effortless to us.)
Brian and Leighanne were talking about Baylee and how when they are riding in their truck and Baylee gets fussy, they play a song called "Mama" on the Celine Dion soundtrack. They said Baylee always stops and stares out the window like he's doing a music video pose. So they said they play that song OVER and OVER again!
Someone asked about "the situation" with the group and AJ and Brian kinda looked at each other and Brian said "Well I guess I'll tackle that one. We were going to record as a group but with Nick going solo, it put a damper on our plans. Jive had their agenda with Nick and Jive had their agenda with us and it didn't work. The Backstreet Boys are all five of us and when the time is right, we'll come back. But hearing your comments about how we've touched you all makes me want to take a flight out of here right now and go start recording." (I know this isn't exactly word for word... but I think it's pretty close to what he says. Y'all can take out of that what you want. To me, it was obvious what he wanted to say, but he was kind of holding back).
AJ also said that he's been sober for 8-9 months because he had a relapse. He said that he's doing great and that he's so glad to be with Brian. He said that back in the day when he was drinking and doing drugs, he wouldn't have been there and he would have let Brian down. He said that he loves Brian. His exact words were "I love this little dork!" (and he patted Brian's head) And Brian goes "I'm older than you!" and AJ said "But you're still smaller!" Hehe. At one point, Brian and AJ were joking that they were gay and Brian called AJ "Alexandria" lol. And Brian was like, "Don't be surprised if two or three songs on my album are dedicated to you."
I was gonna ask them to sing but thankfully another girl asked it (because it was the last question and I wasn't chosen) They sang I'll Never Break Your Heart - it was so great! AJ started off singing and apparently Brian thought it was off-key (sounded good to me! hehe) so Brian comes in and starts singing "You're in the wrongggg keyyyy" It was so funny. So AJ was like "Can anyone give me a B-flat?" Hehe! But they started over and it was AMAZING!
After the Q&A, we ate breakfast. AJ, Brian, Leighanne, Mr. and Mrs. Littrell, Brian's grandma and Baylee were all like RIGHT in front of us eating. Brian, AJ and Leighanne were laughing together and chatting the whole time. AJ talks so loud so it's hard not to eavesdrop! He said something about Nick I know, but mainly they were just chatting and having a good time. They had the Millennium CD playing and AJ and Brian were singing along acting all goofy. It was hilarious. When Nick goes "Don't wanna hear you SAYYYYYY" Brian scrunched up his face and acted like he was belting it out. Also during Kevin's part, they were mocking him and Brian got the breakfast plastic knives and put them up on his eyebows to make them look like Kevin's! I took a pic and Leighanne saw after I had taken it and she acted like she was gonna stuff the bacon in her mouth and she flared her nostrils. She's so funny. We also got to hear one of Brian's demos! The main chorus was, "Then I saw your face...." Really good song! AJ even knew the words! I guess he had listened to it several times through already.
After that, Brian and AJ went around the room to take pictures with everyone. Brian came to our table first. I gave him a hug (he gives the best hugs!) and took pictures. I was gonna ask him to autograph stuff but he seemed very rushed. I showed him the UK hat that I got Baylee and he goes "Aww thank you! Can you hold on to it for a bit?"
AJ finally got around to us at the end. It was so funny. My mom and I were looking at Baylee in the front, and we didn't realize AJ was at our table so my mom turns her head around and AJ's face is like RIGHT there and she goes "Ah!" Haha! He scared her. So he laughed and he was like "I just slipped right in there, poked my head in." My mom was like shaking because it made her jump! lol. She was caught totally off guard. Priceless expression on AJ's face. Probably one of my favorite moments of the day.
After that, I think I went up and asked Mr. Littrell for a picture. He is SO sweet. Jesi was telling me that he seemed kinda shy when she met him before, but he is SO funny! He was making jokes all day! He asked me where I was from and I said Louisiana and he goes "Oh you don't sound like you're from Louisiana!" and he laughed and we said, "Yeah well we're from the north part. We're not Cajuns!"
After that I had to go to the bathroom... I'm sure you're like "Why is she sharing this?" hehe... but this was one of the most exciting times of the day because as we were rounding the corner to go to the bathroom inside the house, AJ opened the door and walked out of the bathroom! LOL... we were laughing cause it shocked us so much. He said "I didn't leave it too messy for you!" and laughed and he walked into the dining room and was looking at UK pictures with Todd. Then Brian's grandma got in the line and we were all like, "After you! After you! After all, you're his grandmother!" and she laughed and said "No - you first!" After I came out, I talked to her for a while. I asked her who's side of the family she was on and she said she is Harold's stepmom. I asked her about Brian and church and she said that he sang solos all the time since he was "this tall" and she held her hand up to show how little he was. She said that she always cried and she still does when she hears him sing. (Can I get an "awwwwwwww" please?) She said that Brian and his mom and his dad and brother used to all sing together sometimes. She said that they are all VERY musical! She asked me where I was from and I told her and I said that I love Lexington and that it's so pretty and we went to the horse park and she goes, "Well I've never even been there and I live here!" I really enjoyed talking with her because she's really sweet. She held Baylee for most of the morning.
After that, we went back out and they had the auction. Brian got AJ to auction the shirt off of his own back! When AJ was taking it off, Baylee started crying and AJ was like. "Ahhh I'm scaring your son Brian!" And Leighanne was like, "AJ, put your clothes back on!" Brian kept on trying to give people items for less money, like he was going down in price and he goes "The goal of this is to just have fun!" and AJ was like, "No Brian, the goal of this is to RAISE MONEY!!!" lol. Brian was like "Yeah it's all about the money for you AJ... all about the Benjamins." The auction lasted for a while and some people bid TONS of money ... like TONS! I wish I had that much to spend for an item, but I don't. But congratulations to the people that won!
After that, we went outside and Brian and AJ demonstrated their excellent golf skills *cough, cough* hehe. What can I say, they aren't the best golfers, but they do try hard! The volunteers told us to move because AJ and Brian and his dad were putting it, hitting it (whatever you call it) in our direction and they didn't want us to get hurt! AJ had his feet around the hole and he was like "Come on Brian, bank it off my foot!" Brian and his dad were joking around like "COME ON SON!!!" and Mr. Littrell was acting like he was Brian's coach and saying "REMEMBER WHAT I TOLD YOU!" It was so cute. They had little kids from the HHC come out and golf. It was so adorable seeing Brian interact with them. Brian gave out a few autographed golf balls! I got one!!! :-D I also picked up a broken tee from the golf course for a "souvenior" but I think it fell out of my pocket later when we were walking. Oh well.
Then they gave out door prizes. They said that last night they were joking around drawing the numbers and they dumped them on the floor and Baylee would grab one so Baylee picked the winners. Brian looked at his card and then he came to our table and was hovering over looking at our numbers. I was like "What is he doing?" But then he said A6 and Jesi jumped up! It was so cute. She got the UK gift basket but she ended up giving me most of the food from it for "souvenirs."
Part two- Lunch and chillin' at the bar with AJ
After the General Admission part was over, the VIP people got our passes (they are SO adorable!) and we hopped on a bus to transport us to the "main" club house or whatever it's called. I was hoping Brian or AJ would join us on the bus and maybe we could start a rousing round of "The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round," lol... but that didn't happen.
Once we got up there, we posed for a group photo. We waited for the other VIP people and Brian to join us and we begged Brian to lie down in front of us (because we were sitting on the ground), but he chose to sit on the wall behind us. Darn!
After that, we went inside to the AIR CONDITIONED dining room to eat our Chick-Fil-A lunch. Brian, Leighanne and Baylee were at the middle table, and we were all around in other tables. Brian was in a real hurry and he didn't have time to sign autographs or anything so he just ate with his family. I kept wondering where AJ was and finally I said outloud, "Gosh I wish AJ was in here. I wanna talk to him." And Jesi goes "Umm Amy he's right behind you." LOL. So I turned around and he's sitting at the bar with Allie and Michelle. so I was like Ah! But I kept cool and I kind of walked up and waited until a pause in the conversation and I said "AJ I'm sorry to bother you, but would you mine signing my scrapbook?" And he goes "Sure honey! No problem!" So he opens it and personalizes it for me.. He wrote "To Amy - Love, AJ Mclean "Bone" BSB '03" After that, I was perfectly content with going back to my seat, but AJ wanted to keep looking. lol. He slowly flipped through all of the pages, studying the pictures very intently. It was funny looking at him reading through it. He saw the pictures of my room (posters on the wall) and he goes "Wow is that your room?" and I said "Yep!" He said, "Ahhh Millennium. That was a great tour!" And I babbled something like, "Yeah it sure was" lol. He was looking at the pictures saying "Oh those were the original costumes, and ohh these were the second ones." He was kind of talking to himself. lol. AJ is so funny. Then he was talking about the poles on stage during "Don't Want You Back." He goes "Ahhhh the poles... aha... Don't Want You Back..." Then he saw my pictures from Black and Blue of Aaron and Tony (I saw them backstage) and he goes "Oh! It's Aaron! Oh that's Tony!" lol.
Then we started talking about Aaron and he was saying how Aaron has grown up so much and is looking like Nick more and more. I said, "I know! He even talks like him too! It's scary!" And AJ looked at me and said, "I KNOW! Aaron's getting more and more vulgar and crude each day!" and he laughed. LOL ... that was funny. It hit me while he was staring at the scrapbook .. like oh my goodness I'm having a conversation with AJ. He had his sunglasses off so I could see his eyes and it hit me right then just how gorgeous he is! I mean I've never really thought that he was one of the most attractive ones, but he really is so handsome in person. He looks so HEALTHY too. I can't stress that enough. After he finished looking at him, I showed up the blank pages at the end and I said "I'll put the pictures from today here!" and he laughed and said "Alright, cool!" After that I said, "Ok AJ so realistically, how long is it gonna be before the next BSB album? Are we talking years, months, what?" He said, "Probably two to three years." I was like "what?!?" And he said, "Well I mean I can't say for sure, but with us all doing our own thing, and knowing us, it will take a while to get us all together." But he did assure me that they would be back. I can tell that they ARE serious about recording again and they are NOT over, contrary to popular belief. But the thing that I liked about it was that he looked me right in the eyes when we were discussing it, like he didn't try to shrug me off. I think he could tell that I wanted a genuine answer, and he gave me the best one he could at the moment.
At this moment, Brandon started talking about the rules for golfing so AJ and I stopped talking for a second and listened to Brandon. After that, AJ spotted Leighanne feeding Baylee (yes THAT kind of feeding lol) and she had a blanket over her, but I guess AJ had never seen that before because he didn't figure out that that was what she was doing. So he yelled across the room "Leighanne, do you know how ODD that looks?" and she motioned what she was doing, and AJ got all embarrassed and he goes, "Oh geez! I didn't need to know THAT!" and he shouted "PARENTAL ADVISORY!" and he covered his eyes.
Then I asked him about his solo album and he told me he's hoping it will be out in the fall. I asked him if he was planning on doing a tour, like a club tour, and he responded very enthusiasically, "Oh yes! Definitely. There is NO way I could NOT tour. I can't stand not touring. I HAVE to be out there on stage." (So AJ fans... you heard it from me, he's going on tour!) After that, I said "Thank you so much AJ. I'm sorry for bugging you!" And he looked at me and smiled and said, "No worries sweetie!" and hugged me. *ahhh* *teeny moment... a Backstreet Boy called me SWEETIE!* So that was my second and last AJ hug of the day, but it was a good one. He gives GREAT hugs!
After that I was gonna go sit down but everyone began to mingle around AJ some more so I went back over and kinda hung back to give some other girls time with him. He told us some stuff about his personal life (not about the group) which I don't know if he wanted to be posted on the internet (it is positive though), but one thing that he said that was really funny was that his "ex-fiance" has his puppies (or his 'sons' as he called them) and he said that he has "puppy visitation rights" and did his fingers like he was making quotes. LOL... that cracked me up. Someone also asked him if he likes to be called AJ or Alex. He said it doesn't really matter to him, but no one calls him Alex but his mom (and that's only when she's mad at him!) so he prefers to be called AJ. I thought I would post this because I know some people were concerned about calling him AJ after the rehab ordeal, but it sounds to me like AJ wants to be known as AJ.
After that, Brian was getting rushed to leave so I just had to run over there and get him to sign my scrapbook. I said, "Brian I'm so sorry to bother you and I know you're rushing, but could you sign really quickly?" He said sure and he opened it up and just signed his name and started to close it, but then he glanced and saw what AJ wrote and he added, "For Amy" at the top, which I thought was really sweet because he was SO rushed and I thought it was really considerate that he thought to do that without me even asking. I said "thank you!" and Brian hopped up and got whisked away by some golfing people. I'm telling you, people were ALWAYS pulling him in different directions the whole day. I felt bad for him because he never got a chance to rest.
After that, Brandon told us to lock up the stuff that we didn't want to carry out to the golf course so I put my scrapbook and HHC items in there, but kept my purse, both of my cameras, visor, sunscreen, Coke bottle, and sunglasses with me. Yes that was interesting trying to juggle all of that stuff. Veem, Steff, and I had to run to the bathroom so we made Brandon promise that he wouldn't leave us. He yelled "Hurry!!!" down the hall to us. So Veem and Steff were still in the stalls when I walked out and I turned around the corner and almost ran smack into Leighanne! So we giggled and said, "Sorry!" to each other and she ran into the bathroom and I ran on outside to catch up with Jesi and the rest of the VIPs.
Part 3- Golfing!
Once we went outside, like HUNDREDS of golf carts were all lined up facing our direction, it was so quiet. So we walked in front and down the path to wait for Brian and Leighanne to come by. They came and they did the golf/parade wave (where you cup your hand and slowly wave) lol... it was so cute. They did that a lot when they were riding.
AJ also drove by with Todd (a golfer who is Brian's friend from childhood) in his cart I think. Also there was a security guy in his own cart and Harold had his own cart. Anyway, so we followed. At the beginning, it was VERY strict and we were told that we had to be quiet when they held the QUIET sign up. However, that soon became a source of entertainment because it was never quiet. Heck Leighanne was doing most of the talking. She was saying how she should cross through QUIET and write LOUD! Hehe. But if people weren't talking, our little fans were going (they sounded like a swarm of bees... bzzzzzzzzz) or people were taking pictures which made a lot of noise. I couldn't stop talking and people were like "Umm Amy it says QUIET!" lol. Oops! It's not like they were being serious anyway. Well maybe they were serious for the first hole... lol. With AJ and Brian together, how can it be serious?
Everytime AJ would screw up he'd be like "DAMNIT!" or "SH*T!" It was pretty funny. Maybe he thought he was saying it quietly but I know I could hear him. Once, Brian hit the ball REALLY hard and AJ said, "Brian hit the piss out of that ball!" And some people were like "Ooh bad word" and he goes "Oh excuse me, Brian hit the 'pee-pee' out of that ball."
Leighanne was the only one keeping score that I saw so we would ask her what the score was. Once she said, "We're at par right now... so that means that we're doing good... but not great!" and she laughed. Once I saw AJ go... "Ok redo!" and he putted it again. LOL.
It was so cute watching them support each other. I thought it was interesting that AJ referred to Brian as "Rok" most of the time. I kind of assumed in the past that Rok and Bone were kind of just stage names for each other. But AJ would be like "Good shot Rok! Whew you hit that ball Rok!"
Once Brian was teeing off, and it was a LONG shot and we thought it was going to make it past the pond, but it hit the edge of the water and everyone goes "Aww UGHHHHHHH" and Brian went running forward hitting his club on the ground in disgust. lol.
Brian's dad is absolutely HILARIOUS! He was clowning around the whole time and making faces and posing for us. Once he hit the ball and I didn't see where it went, but I heard a tree branch snap! Haha. On one hole, it was SO hot so Mr. Littrell motioned to two other girls and me to go stand under the tree on the other side for shade. So we walked across the green and stood there. Todd asked us if we wanted sunscreen and was offering to share his. AJ was SO close to me right then. I took a picture but it didn't turn out that great because of the shadow.
The best part about the golfing was Leighanne. Lemme tell you, this girl is SO much fun to be around. Anyone who doesn't like her needs to have their head examined, seriously! She's one of the nicest people I've met in my entire life! She was driving Brian's golf cart, and we had to walk behind, so every time we would walk up to her cart and start talking to her. (even while they were holding the quiet sign!) Leighanne referred to us as her "buzzing bees" because she said "She could hear us buzzing behind her and then she knew we were coming!" hehe.
She told us that none of the guys have seen Baylee besides Kevin (and that was only because they were together for their grandfather's funeral) and AJ (and AJ just saw him this weekend). She said it's kind of sad in a way. She also said that none of the guys sent in their response cards for their wedding and Howie was late! She said when Brian and Leighanne opened the church doors after walking down the aisle, they ran into Howie and he was like "Ahh!!!" because he had been peeking in the church doors watching the wedding. LMAO.
Someone asked if she was close with Kristin and she said not really, because they live in L.A. and Brian and Leighanne are in Georgia so they don't see each other very much. She said Kevin and Kristin kind of do their own thing. Whatever that means. She did say that she hears that they have an AMAZING house in L.A., but Brian hasn't seen it yet. She said that AJ told them it is absolutely gorgeous.
We were watching AJ and Brian golf, and Leighanne turned to us and said, "Doesn't AJ look good!" We all nodded and she said, "He's been trying to gain weight and I think he looks great. He looks so normal, no purple hair or anything." Hehe! Then I said "It's so great to see them having fun. Together (with the emphasis on together)" And she said "I know! That's the thing, they're TOGETHER. It's great to see!"
Jesi showed her some pictures of Kevin with a mohawk. lol. And Leighanne busted out laughing and covered her mouth and she goes "That looks HORRIBLE! What was he THINKING?!?" And I said that I think it looked the worst with the cornrows and she said "Ugh I know!" And I said, "I mean he looked like Snoop Dogg or something!" and she was like "Snoop Dogg!! Haha..." Then we started discussing all of the guys' past hairdos, and she was talking about how good Howie looked in one picture, and then she said "Ugh I hated it when he had it all poofed out. He looked like a girl!" and she giggled. She said, "Brian always looks good!" and we laughed and then I said "Yeah that's the thing about Brian, he never changes." And she said that now he's starting to try to part his hair on the side and that she laughs at him. Hehe.
Leighanne showed us her tattoo on her lower back and I asked her why she got a bow. She said when Brian and her were dating, he kept on saying, "Come on baby lets get a tattoo together." She said she was like no way, I'm NOT getting a tattoo! But her kept bugging her and finally she was like "Ok I'll get one when we're married." But she told us that she NEVER thought they would get married. So saying that was just a way to get out of it. But when they did get married, she said she got a bow because she didn't want a normal tattoo... she wanted something girly and unique. And she said that she told Brian when she's 80 and all wrinkled and nasty looking, the bow means that she'll be "his present" Aw! Then we were talking about Brian and AJ's tattoos and she said that Brian is thinking about getting one of his removed. I'm not sure which one though. The next hole, someone asked Brian to show us his tattoos, so he pulled his sleeve up and everyone took pictures. He made some comment like, "Well AJ doesn't have to pull his sleeve up to show you his!" LOL!
Leighanne also talked about how much she wants the group to be together again. (So there goes the theory that Leighanne is responsible for the downtime of the group!) She said she's trying to get them back together. She told us that after Brian finishes recording, hopefully the group will be together in the winter. We all responded that we miss them and she said, "I know. I miss seeing them together!" Later, we got on the discussion of Jive Records. She informed us that that is one of the main reasons for the problems. She said, "Jive is raping them. It's horrible!" She said that they can't get out but they are trying. You could tell she was really disgusted. She also said that she wishes we could hear the four songs that the group (I think it was just four of them) recorded. She said they are SO good.
Somehow we got on the discussion of Carson Daly (I think it was because Jesi was talking about how her digital camera wouldn't work and it didn't work when they met Carson) She said, "Ugh I don't like him..." And she turned the other way to say why so I tapped her shoulder and said, "Why don't you like him?!" and she laughed and crossed her legs and said, "Ohhhhh so you want the DIRT huh?!?" And we laughed together. I said, "Yeah! Gimme the gossip!" She said that Carson made some comment about how much older she is than Brian and said that she looked like his "aunt". She said that when she met Carson, she introduced herself by saying, "Hi, I'm Brian's AUNT" in a sarcastic tone and put her hand out like she was shaking his hand. HAHA! We were cracking up laughing and she said the look on HIS face was priceless. He looked horrified. She said that "He can dish it, but he can't take it when someone throws it back at him." I told her that I remembered Carson saying something about that during the I'll Never Break Your Heart video... and she seemed surprised and said "You did?!" She rolled her eyes and said that he's always been rude to her. We were talking about how rude it was and what a jerk he is. Then someone said love doesn't have a number unless it's 15 years apart like Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher! Haha! She laughed and said, "I know, but Demi looks GOOD! I saw her on the cover of People and man, I wish I looked like her!"
So by this time, basically every single hole, we're running up to Leighanne's cart just talking to her about all sorts of stuff. Once we were like, "Sorry if we're bugging you!" And she said "Oh no - You're my girls!" LOL. We weren't even paying attention to Brian and AJ that much anymore. Once Brian got a birdie and I was like, "High five Brian!" So I got a high-five... lol.
It was SO hot out there. They had these HUGE plastic bottle things filled with Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, and water (and a separate one filled with beer... but who would drink BEER when they are golfing?) So the first one I saw, I asked Brandon if we could get the drinks, or if it was just for the golfers. He told me yes it was for us too and then he made an announcement about it so everyone went running toward the drinks. AJ was right in front of me... lol. Once, Todd stopped to get a drink and AJ was still in the cart. Todd was looking them over (I think he was looking for water) and AJ goes "Yay... Yay..." and then Todd came back empty-handed and he goes "Nay." LOL. I don't know why, but I thought that was hilarious!
Once AJ was right in front of me looking at the course and I was like "AJ!" And he turned around and I said "Smile!" and he gave me the cutest smile! This is probably one of my favorite pictures of the day.
The guys holding the "quiet signs" were obviously burning up, so Jesi and I got on their good side by holding up our motorized fans to their necks and fanning them. lol. After a while, they just gave up on trying to get us to be quiet. Leighanne had the quiet sign and she acted like she was going to hit AJ on the head with it.
At the last hole, we were talking to Leighanne about how a lot of us have gotten to be friends through BSB message boards and she seemed really touched by that. She was like, "Did your parents let you come all the way here by yourself? How old are you?" I told her I was sixteen and that my mom was general admission, and that she wasn't going to go but I told her that I really wanted her to be there when I met Brian. She said, "Awww how sweet," and seemed really touched by that.
Then, we had to leave. So we were SUPPOSED to just walk away, but Jesi and her friends wanted to do their singing thing to Brian, so I was responsible for videotaping it. I asked Leighanne to hold my sunglasses and Diet Coke and she turned to Brian and said, "Baby - they want to sing something to you." So Brian turned around and I started recording while the Backstreet Quartet sang, "What Makes You Different" to him. It was so sweet. At the end, Brian was like "Watch your finger" because he thought I had my finger over the video recorder. Hopefully I didn't! It was really sweet.
So then AJ told us that he had to go so I waved goodbye. I wanted to go ask him for a picture but then I was afraid Brian would be gone by the time I got back. So, they were trying to rush us off because we were holding up all the other golfers behind us. (By this time, there were 3 golf carts lined up waiting) So Brian was signing autographs for us really quickly. I got my VIP pass signed. Then we asked Tim (the quiet sign guy) to PLEASE take a picture of Jesi and me with Brian. He was like "I'm sorry to be the bad guy but we just don't have time." But we BEGGED... lol. So he's like, "Ok, last picture of the day!" So Jesi and I got with Brian and Tim took the picture. It turned out SO cute. I gave Brian a hug and I said Thank you so much for everything...it was so much fun. He told me thank you and said that we'll have to do it again sometime. Then we went over to Leighanne and she said, "Bye girls!" and motioned for us to come in and hug her. She gave us all hugs and she told us to have a safe trip back. Right before I left, I said "Leighanne, get them back in the studio!!" She said, "I'm trying!" and she did her hand like she was cracking a whip... it was so cute! I was about to walk away and she said, "Umm don't you need these?" and handed me my sunglasses and Diet Coke! I laughed and said, "Oops! Yes I do need them!" We waved goodbye and the press swarmed in on Brian as we were walking off (on the Lexington news that night, you could see us walking behind him in the distance).
Then it hit me ... it was over. I had met Brian and AJ. Wow. For 5 and a half years I've dreamed of the moment when I would meet them, and it came true. It was everything I imagined and 10 times more. These guys are SO down to earth, kind, considerate, and friendly. They are such genuinely AMAZING people. Before the event, I was feeling kind of depressed about the future of BSB. Now I feel more confident and relaxed than ever. It was so clear how much the boys were touched by our support. They said they will be back, and they will. And when they come back, it will be better than ever. Keep the Backstreet Pride Alive everyone! - Amy
