Kid Cruz: Howie D. from the Backstreet Boys
Howie: Hey, he's back. How's it going?
Kid: (Sings) Guess who's back, (Howie laughs and sings Howie's back). Back again. Dude I couldn't even tell you the month or year when we spoke on the radio last time.
Howie: Oh my gosh, I know. It's been like a year or so ago.
Kid: Oh at least. At least.
Howie: At least right? I been missing, ya know, giving my Howie updates ya know, it's been..
Kid: It used to be monthly and then the tour got crazy and then it was like bi-monthly
Howie: It was like a physical check-up. It was ya know, it was OK> Ya know, I was getting comfortable with it.
Kid: Well it's good to have you back on and it's good to speak with you again and dude I,.. I.. and again and I do apologize for calling and waking you up this morning. (Howie laughs it's all good) I didn't know w you were in California. Are you in L.A?
Howie: Yes I'm actually out here in L.A-The group is out here doing some writing and ah trying to put this album together. The never ending album.
Kid: You've been out there allot then you're pretty much spending allot of time out there in California?
Howie: Yea! We've been out here since February.
Kid: Unbelievable- Dude what happened to this sweet house we see on Cribs is the place empty? Give me the key dude (Howie laughs) I'll clean if for ya. Whats the deal?
Howie: (laughing) My brother's using it. Using it very well. That and the car.
Kid: Alright. Well when I see him at Tabu, then I'm gonna set up and after party.
Howie: (laughing) There ya go!
Howie: Tell him not to use my bedroom, though, ok? (laughs)
Kid: You gotta keep that locked man.
Howie: (laughs) yea I know.
Kid: As long as they stay out of your bedroom. How far along is the album? This is gonna be incredible- I mean do you even have a time line as far as when you guys wanna release a new Backstreet Boys album?
Howie: No, ya know whats really weird, actually we were originally talking. umm. hopefully something out in Aug., but as we all know thats gone already. uhhh. So now we're shooting for sometime the end of Dec. maybe the beginning of next year sometime. As far as the kinda things we are looking for, we're really hoping to put something out as quick as possible, but at the same time, this album to us, we want it to be like out Millineum album again. We want it to one of our best albums and we know that we're ya know creating, we're experimenting, we're trying to evolve. And uum.. so that hopefully we can put a stamp in the music industry again for another ten years. Actually coming up in this April will be ten years for us.
Kid: And yea. this will be a pretty big defining album in you career I think.
Howie: Yea, exactly , so we wanna make sure we're coming with the good.
Kid: Very nice.
Howie: And then we're;re gonna put it all together and start recording right now, Like I say it's been mostly all just writing and doing demos.
Kid: Well I don't wanna stir up any drama or anything, but it's gotta be really tough with everything happening with Nick doing his solo thing now.
Howie: Yea I'm very happy for the kid actually I just talked to him a couple of days ago. He's he went over to Europe and ya know we're all very proud of him we wanna be supportive to each other to. Ya know spread out our wings and try different things especially if its something thats gonna make ya know it gonna make you happy. Ya know if you're not happy how can you be happy in the group. we talk on a regular basis. Actually I went out to his video shoot they actually threw me in with him on the making of the video.
Kid: I saw it yea I saw that little thing.
Howie: And ah, we're all doing some individual stuff. I'm doing a little bit of acting. Brians getting ready to have a baby in Dec. which we're all very proud and happy for him. And ah ya know Kevin and I are doing some producing and writing in the side as well and...
Kid: Are you gonna be the hold out single member of the group? No marriage Howie, c'mon stay single dude.
Howie: Nope nope nope nope can't do it I got Tabu. I cant do it.
Kid: (Laughing) Exactly, thats what I like to hear (Howie laughing) Umm.. you know win this contest make Nick get married first.
Howie: There we go.
Kid: Before you do . Hold out ok.
Howie: The youngest member beats out the second to oldest member to ever get married.
Kid: There ya go tomorrow nite here in WB 18 at 8:30 you're on the second new episode of the season for Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Howie: Yes. Yes yes yes. very excited about it.
Kid: I understand, this , in my mind is kind of a stretch, you play an arrogant superstar in the episode.
Howie: Yes, I play kind of a pompous Rock-N-Roll star umm I guess Sabrina, this new season , she's actually become a reporter for this magazine called sketch-actually I think its called scratch or something like that.
Kid: Scorch I think, But...
Howie: Scorch, there ya go... ah your reading off the web site there
Kid: (laughs) No I'm a closet fan I love Sabrina any way whatever.
Howie: (Laughing) And ah one of her first interviews is with me. And I'm like this like I say arrogant pompous Rock-N-roll superstar wannabe and she comes to interview me and I'm like not even paying attention to her. And I'm all into my workout and um she cant tell that u have a big head and so she writes a bad article about me and I hey all way pisses off and I go to her management and try to get her fired and they say they wont fire her, but they'll try to get her to retract and she doesn't wanna retract so the next best thing they have is for her to come up on stage and apologize in front of the public and I try to take it to this bigger thing and I try like to spank her (edit: WHAAAAAA?!) and all this stuff and she's like forget this. She's like you know you just got a big head and she spell on me and my head gets like really big and everything so its gonna actually be pretty funny. I haven't seen the final version yet so I'll be watching it myself at 8:30 tomorrow nite as well, hoping and praying that I don't make a fool out of myself, but it was also fun.
Kid:Yea c'mon you're like Sweet D, your layed back, your a great guy and you get to be this arrogant guy. It must be kinda fun right. You get to be an ass.
Howie: Yea it was actually kind of fun. It was actually, i mean, I , it was totally opposite stretch. its weird, like I say I'm trying to do this acting stuff right now on the side and mostly sticking away from doing musical stuff ya know trying to ya know gain the credibility and that factor.
Kid: Spread you wings, spread your wing.
Howie: Yea, ya know like Mark Wahlberg doing small stuff and ya know building my name with either a great cast or on a great director. But this is actually a stretch anyway even though it was partly
Kid: I'm trying to.. ya know c'mon Howie come clean has there ever been, have ya ever blown up, has there ever been like a dressing room incident where like the m and M & M's were outta place or all this superstar c'mon Howie... you've never flown off the handle?
Howie: (Laughs) No its more like when they give me Nick's underwear to wear instead of mine and ya know on stage , thats when I fly off the handle. I can fit 2 of my bodies in there if just ya know its not worth it for me (giggle snort)
Kid: I don't know if I really need to know about you wearing Nicks underwear (laughing) Thats kinda crazy
Howie: (laughs) Just joking yes you know we have wardrobe and everything and they give us out personal underwear that we wear on stage out BS fruit of a looms.
Kid: Nice
Howie: We don't sell it as a merchandise anymore.
Kid: You guys shoulda got like B.S under roos on something ya know?
Howie: There we go right.
Kid: Super heroes you guys coulda done the B.k. super heroes like underoos
Howie: (laughing) hey thats not a bad idea actually I'll give you 5% if we work on that deal alright? We'll work something out
Kid: Sweet-laughs- I get 5% thats funny. Sounds like your doing great dude and ah I'm so happy for you Yea and get those acting roles man.
Howie: (Laughing) Very focused on making a new album. We cant wait for the public to hear we really appreciate all the fans sticking behind us.
Kid: It's all good my friend and ah whenever you come back to Tabu let us know we'll have a big party.
Howie: Definitely, Definitely.
Kid: It'll be much fun. Bowie D thank you so much for taking the time to to bring back, bring back to that Bowie d. report.
Howie: Yea, we'll have to do this check-up again, alright.
